behind the scenes

Another Guptoberfest. Wunderbar! Oct 5, 2019

New venue, same result. Guptoberfest 2019 was a hit. An all-day event with some 30 plus people over the day.

A 5.6% hefeweizen and a 8% Amber Wheat were brewed for the day. Both beers went down a treat and both kegs were finished by the end of the night.

This photo was taken just on midday at our new venue. What a sight to behold. Drinking wonderful beer with good friends makes it a worthwhile thing in life.

Already looking forward to 2020!

2019 Guptoberfest: Wunderbar!

My mate's 51st birthday party: Dec 10, 2016

A special birthday for a mate deserves a pretty special beer. It was decided to brew a really big beer, and I do mean a REALLY BIG beer.

I put my experience to the test, formulating a recipe that had been in development for a while.  It was nothing fancy, but it all had to click. And indeed it did click. This phenomenal beer reached the heady heights of a beer never before brewed.

It had the lovely backbone of Munich malt, with the additions of both citrus and fruity hops. I rarely use fruity hops in my beers, but this combination is very nice.

Meet: Trump Card. At 11.5% alcohol by volume, this baby sure knows how to party! Prost!

Trump Card 11.5%

Take it easy, wont you? We had a few of these (tasters) at the beginning of the day and realised this is most likely better at the end of the night. You know, when things are quite and unlikely to trip over the cat, fall into the rubbish bin, and knock yourself out. Best you do that later when no one's around!

Guptoberfest Oktoberfest: Nov 6, 2016

We clearly love Oktoberfest. Our Guptoberfest was in its third year, and what a magnificent day it was!

The beer was flowing, the people were awesome and the food was sensational. We expect nothing but perfection at Guptoberfest!

So what beer was made available on-tap at Guptoberfest? Well, it was a blend of a German Wheat beer mixed with Orange. You can find details of it here (brew #96).

Let me say this: what a marvellous day to celebrate Oktoberfest! Prost!

The Lord Raglan Hotel, Jan 2015

It's the beer that keeps on giving. My 'Tassie Pepper Devil' has had a new lease on life. Harvs, head brewer at Yulli's, contacted me around Christmas informing me that my beer would be available at The Lord Raglan Hotel. How cool is that, huh? So, with as soon as I had the opportunity it was time to take a few snaps for prosperity. A few people had it on the night so it was pretty awesome to see people liking the beer.

Sydney Craft Beer Week, October 2014

I was asked by James "Harvs" Harvey, Head Brewer at Yulli's, to brew a beer that incorporated an Australian native herb or spice. I chose Tasmanian Mountain Pepper. The result was an unbelievable beer that the fantastic folk at Yulli's enjoyed quite a lot. Thanks to Harvs for this efforts, and thanks to the great people of Yulli's for drinking my beer. Love ya!

Fayetteville, Arkansas, Sep/Oct 2010

I'm a big fan of Basic Brewing, and while visiting the USA (as I usually do) I had the pleasure of catching up with both James Spencer and Andy Sparks over in Fayetteville, Arkansas. This photo was taken in 2010, and I had the pleasure of meeting James and Andy again in 2013 along with Steve Wilkes. These guys were extraordinarily accommodating and fun to be with.
